Singer and songwriter John Denver touched millions of people and reached superstar status by his folk-inspired pop hits many of them based in Colorado. Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico he fell in the love of Colorado and later relocated to Aspen. Denver's anthems for his adopted state have attracted many people to Colorado. I don't think there's another performer that embodies Colorado such as John Denver said G. Brown director of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame. Denver is the Hall of Fames' first inductee, was honored by the honor in 2011. Today, he is the international face of Colorado. Certainly in my travels you encounter someone on the other part of the globe, or someone from New Zealand and you say 'I'm originally from Colorado and the first thing that comes out of their mouths is Oh John Denver! Brown clarified. Take Me Home Country Roads was one of Denver's top 10 singles after performing with smaller folk groups. The song was written and performed by Bill Danoff. Danoff wrote the tune with the inspiration of Johnny Cash, but Denver was able to hear an early version of the song and realized it would become one of the Top 10 hits. After performing to an excited audience in Washington D.C., the singer recorded this song.
